Proverbs provides compelling answers to the questions What is godly wisdom? and Why should one get it? But at the end of ones life, answers often address the past, not eternity.
Godly wisdom allows one to thrive in a sinful world. However, Solomons teaching in Proverbs was limited as Jesus Christ had not yet entered the world.
Old Testament wisdom established a pathway that would lead to a destination through the redemptive death and resurrection of the one who is the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6) for all who believe in Jesus Christ. Without Jesus Christ as the embodiment of eternal godly wisdom, we are likely to slip into trying to apply the wisdom of Solomon to perform our way through life like the Pharisees.
The premise of this book is that Solomons teaching about the beginning of wisdom is completed in Jesus Christ, as shown in Johns Gospel and applied in Jamess letter to the twelve tribes scattered among the nations (James 1:1).
The author examines what, why, and so what answers that Jesus modeled, taught, and promised about godly wisdom. He also explores Jamess eight so what practices for developing wisdom with an eye toward eternity.
